  • Optional Services: Additional services for buyers and sellers as described on the platform.
  • Donation Hub: We act as an intermediary hub, bridging the gap between orphanages, charities, and the general public.

We are responsible for the services we provide within the limits of applicable laws, our commitments, and under the conditions set out in these Terms.

2. About These Terms

These Terms and Conditions are a legal agreement between you and us and govern your use of our site and services. You agree to these Terms when you register for a Thrift & Donate account or when we notify you of updates and you continue to use the platform.

If you see a capitalised word in bold, it is a defined term.

The Catalogue Rules, including the rules on what items may be listed, form an essential part of these Terms. If there is any conflict between these Terms and the Catalogue Rules, the Catalogue Rules will take precedence.

We may also provide links to important information and our Help Centre, where you can find answers to frequently asked questions.

4. How We Use Your Personal Data

We process your personal data to fulfil our obligations and rights under these Terms and to provide our services. This includes use for operational, commercial, marketing, promotional, and service improvement purposes, including the development and improvement of artificial intelligence and machine learning systems.

  • Immediately update your account details if they change.
  • Keep your login details and password confidential.
  • Inform us if you believe someone has unlawfully taken over your account.

  • Use software that disrupts the normal operation of the site or harms another user’s device.
  • Copy, edit, distribute, or commercialise site content without written consent.
  • Data mine, screen scrape, crawl, decompile, or reverse engineer any part of the site.
  • Publish unlawful, hateful, abusive, exploitative, or dangerous content.
  • Delete and relist the same item repeatedly or list multiple duplicate items in bulk.
  • Collect, store, or disclose other users’ information unlawfully.
  • Promote other websites or companies through advertisements on our site without permission.

7. Our Rights to Handle Concerns

If we find that you are violating these Terms or acting unlawfully, we may take corrective action, including:

  • Sending you a warning message.
  • Removing or correcting your items in the catalogue.
  • Demoting, hiding, or removing your content.
  • Hiding private messages you have sent.
  • Restricting access to certain account features.
  • Notifying relevant authorities where necessary to protect life or safety.

We may temporarily or permanently block your account if you repeatedly breach these Terms, commit a serious breach, provide false information, fail to cooperate during verification, or abuse the site’s features.

If your account is blocked:

  • You may lose access to the site except for contacting Customer Support.
  • Your items may be removed from the catalogue.
  • We may prevent you from creating a new account.

We may use automated systems to detect breaches and take action. Any action taken will be proportionate to the violation.

8. Corrective Action Without Prior Notice

We may take corrective action or block your account without prior notice if:

  • There are reports or suspicions of fraud, illegal activity, identity theft, money laundering, or misuse of payment services.
  • There are issues involving transactions between sellers and buyers.
  • Your content or use of the platform poses safety, legal, or public security concerns.
  • You created an account on your own as a minor.
  • The law prevents us from notifying you in advance.
  • There is a threat to the security or smooth operation of our IT systems.
  • You commit repeated or serious breaches of these Terms.

9. Messages and Reviews

Private Messages

You may send private messages to other users only for matters relating to an item or transaction.

You must not send:

  • Advertisements
  • Malware
  • Unsolicited or bulk messages
  • Illegal, obscene, harmful, threatening, or inappropriate messages

Reviews

After a transaction is complete, you may write and publish a review about the transaction and the other user. Reviews must be fair, honest, and genuine. We do not compensate users for reviews and do not necessarily verify reviews before publication.

10. Ending Our Relationship

You may end your relationship with Thrift & Donate at any time and free of charge by deleting your account or emailing info@thriftanddonate.com.

We may also end these Terms at any time for any reason by giving you 15 days’ prior written notice.

11. Selling an Item on Thrift & Donate

You must have the legal right to transfer ownership of an item to a buyer.

To list an item for sale, you must upload your own photo and provide a description that accurately reflects the item’s quality, appearance, and any defects or alterations. Once listed and published, your item becomes an offer for sale that may be accepted by a buyer.

Buyer’s Choice

If a buyer proposes a new price as a counteroffer, the item is not considered sold simply because you accept that counteroffer. The item is sold only after the buyer clicks the buying button and payment is accepted.

You may withdraw your listing at any time before a buyer purchases the item.

How We Rank and Recommend Information

We use automation tools to understand, rank, and recommend relevant information to users browsing the site. More information may be available in our Frequently Asked Questions.

12. Ready to Shop?

How to Buy an Item

  • Click the buying button.
  • Contact the seller for payment method and delivery options.

What Happens Next?

The seller then delivers the item to the buyer, and the buyer makes payment directly to the seller and confirms delivery on the website when the item is received.

If you buy an item offline or outside our site, we are not responsible for that transaction. Such purchases are made at your own risk and will not be covered by any protections we offer for transactions made on our site.

13. Buyer Protection

Buyers are responsible for making sure items purchased are thoroughly checked when delivered before making payment to the seller.

Buyer Protection supports users in resolving issues with sellers. We first encourage buyers to discuss the issue directly with the seller to reach a satisfactory resolution.

If no resolution is reached, the buyer may escalate the matter to Customer Support. We will notify the seller, and the seller may:

  • Grant a refund without requiring the item to be returned, or
  • Require the buyer to return the item within 5 business days, unless otherwise agreed, before a refund is issued.

Return delivery costs are the buyer’s responsibility unless otherwise agreed with the seller.

If the seller does not respond or act within 14 days after the issue is reported, Customer Support may assist where possible, but we do not guarantee that we will be able to recover funds or reach the seller. We may also take action against the seller’s account where appropriate.

Seller Responsibility

Sellers must comply with Thrift & Donate packaging rules and the forbidden item list. If there is evidence that a seller failed to comply with these rules, the Terms, or Catalogue Rules, and the seller is reported by the buyer, the seller’s account may receive a warning or other corrective action.

14. Final Important Terms

Ownership of the Site

We, Thrift & Donate, and/or our licensors own all intellectual property rights to the site, including its system, layout, software, trademarks, and domain names.

Site Availability

We are not responsible for interruptions in site availability caused by maintenance or events beyond our reasonable control. Where possible, we will:

  • Inform you about planned or existing restrictions,
  • Schedule downtime outside peak hours, and
  • Keep maintenance downtime within a reasonable limit.

Your Responsibilities

  • Your content and actions under your account
  • All items listed, sold, and transferred by you
  • Reviews you publish
  • Any disputes resulting from your actions

We are not responsible for any tax liabilities or reporting obligations that may apply to you due to your activities on the site.

As a hosting provider, we do not conduct general monitoring of content or listed items. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage relating to a transaction between users.

15. How Disputes Will Be Handled

Disputes between buyers and sellers should first be discussed and resolved between those parties.

If you cannot resolve a disagreement through our customer service portal, or if you are unhappy with the result, you may contact relevant national consumer bodies for alternative dispute resolution services.

These Terms are governed by the national laws of the country where you live.

16. Updates to These Terms

We may update these Terms in the future. Depending on the type of change, we will notify you.

  • If you do not agree with a change, you may end your relationship with us.
  • These Terms do not create a partnership or agency relationship between you and us.
